Q: How long do auctions last?
A: For now, each auction begins on a Monday and runs to the following Sunday, lasting 6 days.
Q: I love the painting on auction today! How do I bid?
A: We use an externally hosted, online bidding system that is accessible from the LIVE Auction! page. On that page, you'll see a link to ENTER THE ONLINE BIDDING AREA, where you will begin by registering for an account or logging into your existing account. The personal information collected during registration is secure, and used only in the event that you are the successful bid.
Q: How do I know the highest bid made so far?
A: From Monday to Sunday, while an auction is live, the highest bid will be displayed in the online bidding area until the end of the auction.
Q: How do I know if I won / What happens if I am the successful bidder?
A: When the current auction closes at 7pm EST, we will contact the successful bidder and make arrangements for payment of the painting by eTransfer. The successful bidder will have the option of having their name displayed on the web site or remaining anonymous.
Q: Can I buy a piece of art that wasn't sold in a past auction?
A: We're very new, so we're going to take a bit of time to run auctions and collect artwork. Keep watching our Past Auctions page. For now it shows previously successful bids, but this may eventually change to a directory of art still available for purchase.
Q: Which artists do you feature?
A: Please see our Participating Artists page for more information.
Q: Do artists get a % of the sale of their painting?
A: When they submit a work for auction, artists are given the option to request 0-40% commission for the sale of that work. Each artist makes their own individual choice. This means, in other words, when you buy a painting here, you are making a direct contribution of 60-100% of the painting's price to a Canadian food bank!
Q: How much of each sale actually goes to a food bank?
A: Our mission is to create a platform that assists Canadians in their time of need. That's why we ensure that 60-100% of each painting purchased from auction goes directly to a Canadian food bank.
Q: How do you choose which food banks you support?
A: Each artist specifies the local or national food bank that they wish their painting proceeds to support.
Q: Which food banks across Canada are you currently supporting?
A: Currently, we are supporting the Renfrew and Ottawa Food Banks. As this initiative grows, we will provide a directory of food banks on this site that have received your financial donations through the purchase of a painting.
Q: I am an artist, and I would love to be a part of this - how do I join?
A: We'd love to hear from you! Please see our Call to Artists for more information.
Q: Are you a registered nonprofit organization?
A: Not yet! But what a great idea :) Something to shoot for
